For Costa Rica :  Has anyone completed the $200, 000. ( soon to be $160,000.) property purchase and obtained a  green card ?

@jkp39 it's 150,000 now and we are in the process of filing. There can only be one name on the deed if married and then your family can be claimed through you. If you purchase a home that's 150,000 and put you and spouse then the total cost is split and cannot apply.

cmc0321  Thank you for the  reply .    Thinking  that if one  buys a CR  property /and  would  pay cash,  ( and  at $150.+ one  doesn't  get   much today - comparable) this would be the way to go  !  If  one gets a green card, and can bring in 2 motorized vehicles ( CR import TAX ??  ) + house hold items. This direction  would certainly  be worth it !           Your  opinion now that you've started.     Do you know of anyone that has completed this ventrue ?     Appreciate the  continued input on  your venture !

We went the Inversionista route when the investment was $200,000.  The kicker is that it is not the amount paid for the property, but rather it goes by the Municipalities assed tax value.  For example we built our house and it cost just over $300,000 but when the Municipality gave us our tax assessment it was valued at $204,000, we barely made the $200,000 cut off.

@jkp39 Yes there is a tax for vehicles and household goods right now. They passed a law that allows 1 load of household goods and 2 cars tax free but they haven't figured out the how so it hasn't been implemented.

It is worth it, but be prepared for the cost associated with the move and taxes. then legal fees for temporary residency if you go through a lawyer.

Do appreciate the input  back.   Sounds  like  the  regulations still   need to be on the  books  for a while !    Understand the typical "slow"  time frame,  but  what was your actual  time involved with this direction ?
