Hello everyone,

I have the Belgian citizenship and my girlfriend (Kenyan citizenship) and I are expecting our first child together (april 2023).

How can I recognize my child as a foreigner?

Can anyone advice me in this topic,

Thank you in advance,

With kind regards,

B.

Why don’t you get married

I suggest you contact your Embassy in Nairobi.

You may be able to register the child with them.

You can get married.

You can contact your embassy for that and will have to provide:

√copies of passports;

√marriage certificate;

√birth certificate of the child;

√proof of residence in the country, if required   by law.

For that you will have to get married first

@BC84 it bepends where the child is born. For Kenyan citizenship all you have to have is 1 parent who is Kenyan.  Belgium citizen born abroad certificate can be issued by the Belgium embassy.  If the child is born in Belgium.....I don't know the law there.

Thank you all,

We are not married at the moment, because I am not officially divorced yet - normally in february 2023.

We are still looking for the best way - if possible we should prefer she is giving birth in Belgium.

It will all depend on what is legally possible.

With kind regards,
