Renovated apartment T2 in Arroios, Lisbon

This renovation rethinks the spatial logic of a traditional Lisbon flat to better reflect contemporary living. By inverting the original layout, the most generous rooms are now given over to shared spaces - kitchen, dining and living — while the more intimate areas are reserved for rest and retreat.

Wherever possible, original elements such as solid wood floors and decorative ceiling mouldings were

preserved. The kitchen was relocated to the centre of the apartment, allowing all water infrastructure to remain in place and enabling the conservation of key architectural features. The former kitchen and bathroom - areas without original detailing were reimagined with more contemporary materials, creating a subtle contrast with the historical character of the rest of the home.

The apartment features two bathrooms - an uncommon feature in Lisbon flats of this size. The softly curved geometry in the suite arose from the challenge of fitting generous bathing and storage areas into a compact footprint. What began as a spatial constraint became an opportunity to introduce a distinct design language that contrasts quietly with the rest of the home.
