Visiting RO starting Sept. 24, starting in Bucharest

salsapicante

Hi Everyone,

I will be flying in to Bucharest (Otopeni airport) sept 24, leaving oct 9 and would love to meet some of you, and also get an idea of the Bucharest area.
I will be taking this trip to preview the country for a potential move, so if any of you have ideas or would like to "show me the ropes" I'd appreciate it!
Where should I convert USD into Lev's?
Thanks,

Chris

Best place to convert USD to LEV would probably be Bulgaria. :)

However, if you want some LEI to spend in Romania, you can change them at the airport, although from memory I think the rates aren't that great. There are exchange offices all around town, or you can change money at any bank (often ok in terms of rates), or even just use your card to get lei straight from an ATM.

Dont change your cash at the airport unless you need some straight away for a taxi for example.

There are loads of banks and exchange places (anamets) all over Bucharest, exchange rates tend to be similar in most places when your selling Dollars or Sterling. There is always plenty of choice anywhere, no matter what part of Bucharest your staying in. Take your pasport with you though, wherever you do decide to exhange, they always need your proof of identity. Alot of the banks have English speakers in them too if that helps you.

Bucharest is an interesting enough place, plenty to see too, it depends what you like really.

Good luck, and enjoy your stay.

Normally this is good advice. The exchanges near the check-in area or arrivals hall is robbery.  However I got great exchange rates at the exchange kiosk on the 2nd level in the hall connecting the departures and arrivals terminals. It was significantly better that what I could get in town.
