and potentially run the risk of a battering - as theyre not exactly renowned for their diplomacy are they!!!

personally id stand up to them and wait for police whilst the other passengers get miffed at the delay or whatever - but thats not always suited to everyone - so it may be better to pay and take the matter up with Arriva directly - assuming you can identify the culprits.

Yes it does, because the original comment by Angela was that the local councils can't use the new EID numbers in their computers to issue the 'oldies' travel card and we have realised why that is the case. If it's not of importance to you then why bother to comment - here we go again!

Which is why I wrote 'I'd say its more to do with the design of the data bases they are using for eID and groupings.'
Also what you wrote was 'just a guess' - no substantial theory or evidence.

And then I asked the question 'But basically, does it really matter?' to trigger off a response or two in search of a possible sensible answer.

[Moderated: Off topic]

If you are going to 'moderate' i.e. censor my posts then please also apply the same criterion to the posts that I have to respond to in this way. See above that facetious and patronising comment 'here we go again' - thank you.

Its not to do with problems of inputting the number into the computers

Local councils have been told to stop issuing karta Anzan cards to foreigners as the eResidency card replaces them (as well as replacing the old ID card and the residency permit). Same will happen with Maltese when they eventually get their new cards.

As I thought also George and I have seen an official document stating that but I can't for the life of me find it right now.
I know I read it as when I first applied for an appointment in May, I suggested an appointment date after my 60th birthday so that the task could be completed in one attempt, rather than have to go back to have it amended later.
My theory as perhaps another factor could have been the data bases is depending upon what systems they use, the memory for each entry available (older systems are limited)and thus how many digits can be entered, was just an idea, which is why I stated 'I'd say' thus implying it was a guess.
It seems, that as usual it is a lack of communication between managers between departments.

I may have worked in the British Embassy (Paris) for four years, however, what I did learn is that this 'diplomacy' malarkey can work both ways.

If they wouldn't give me their name, I'd take that picture.

Toon

ABSOLUTELY.....everyone has a choice  - even inspectors and drivers as well as passengers

Well the latest regarding the above is quite a shock, I received an email from Veronica Borg (customer care, Arriva Malta) stating "the elderly person's rate applies to persons who are in possession of a valid Kartanzjan card issued in their name by the government of malta. Persons over sixty years or age that do not produce this will be charged the full adult fare.........so we are back to the very beginning.....

this is beyond belief....and makes matters worse that even Arriva  or maybe just this one member of staff - havent been informed by the Gov what is and isnt acceptable....NO REAL SUR[IRSE THOUGH.

maybe you should go right to the top of the tree at Arriva

Have you asked your local council if they are still issuing the OAP card? a simple phone call will give you the answer!

biddy

Marsaskala Council is issuing this document to Maltese residents only - not to foreigners with eResident card

angela lister

Hi guys, have been to Ghajnsielem council countess times, they only apply for the cards and due to the different resident number on the card, the computer cannot accept it!!!!!that of course would be the simplest answer, have sent an email to the minister for gozo but doubt very much whether he will bother acknowledging it.

georgeingozo

Seeing yesterdays Times, I think the Minister for Gozo has got more pressing personal issues on his mind

angela lister

When you are grasping at straws, like ourselves, then anything is worth trying.

Toon

grasping at straws will be the next method deployed for applying for e-residency...LOL

tearnet

followed BY "WHAT CAN YOU DO" and a shrug of the shoulders.

angela lister

Yes and try to remember to keep on smiling next time an inspector threatens us.....Im literally going around in circles here yeah so maybe grin and bear it and pay the full fare

Hi Angela

you are indeed made from stern stuff and I applaud your strength, however.........and it keeps creeping in, what is with these "inspector threats"?

Are they intimidatory, bullying or passive aggressive?  How exactly are these threats/motions made?   Is it because of your age (stands back) do you think?..... or do you think they would try the same with a big fella like Toon, say?

I'm just trying to get my head around it........just in case I am in that position in the future.

We were working as volunteers at Notte Bianca over the weekend and met a 'Revenue Protection Officer' for Arriva - which is what we are referring to as bus inspectors. We spoke to him about Angela's experience and to our surprise (or maybe not)he said he had no idea that people carrying the new EResidence card could not get an AOP card. He had also not seen the new card (we showed it to him) and he said 'we never get told anything'! He offerred to raise this issue at their next meeting....
We will continue to insist on paying only 50c and hope we don't meet up with a RPO with a bad attitude.

biddy

Travelled on BUS91/15 from Marsaskala to Sliema and back today for 50c and saw two lots of "Revenue Protection Officers" without incidence. Ticket has "Day ChP ID" at the top - is this significant?

Toon

it begs the question how come some know about them and some dont - or is it something "darker"   excuse pun

angela lister

Oh well, got our letter published in Monday Malta Times, reporter already rang me wanting to do  story and has sent me an email and phone number of a person who wishes to pay any legal costs should I wish to proceed to take arriva to court....interesting, obviously someone else with a huge grudge, apart from our grievance with the inspector the main issue being the lack of communication between the gov and arriva. Also now doubting has there been such a law passed regarding the e-residency allowing concessionary fares....

Toon

i dont think so - they must treat you like any other over 60s person thus the same as any other over 60s maltese person.

georgeingozo

Missed your letter Angela - looks like it was one that appeared in the printed version only

If you go to the Times on line and look at the "letters" section its on there, with loads of comments.

georgeingozo

ah, its on Tuesday not Monday :-)

georgeingozo

Excellent letter, and responses (well, nearly all of them !) - good to see so many supportive ones from Maltese nationals

MikeInPoulton

Loved the reply from the guy who said an 'elderly' gentleman had the same problem getting his reduced fare at the Gozo Ferries ticket ofice, the clerk would not accept the ID card....................right up until the people 'in line' shouted at the clerk and 'Hey Presto' reduced fare ticket appeared.
