Plants for pots

MalteseCross

What are the best plants for pots in Malta.
That will survive the heat when not in Malta.
Have one small palm tree growing at the moment in a pot.
And a few Geraniums.
Would Cacti be the best and wheres the best place near St Julian's to buy them.
Need to fill up two patios 6ft by 12ft and 24ft by 12ft.
Also are shops great on deliveries or best to use a taxi.

I'm not so sure about this but don't plants in pots attract cockroach where they can lay their eggs and also mosquitoes, except for those mentioned in this article posted earlier:

No shortage of prickly pear though and they'll survive.

Just found this:

Roaches eat decomposing matter so if your pots have organic matter in them, it's possible to have roaches in them. Submerging the entire pot in water will cause the roaches to evacuate but there may be eggs in the soil. If you see roaches evacuate upon submersion, you may want to repot the plants, rinsing the roots well before going back into new soil. If the pots are on the ground, the chances of having roaches in them is much higher.

That's reassuring to read. Like many things though, it's best to be aware of possibilities and risks.

Best ask at a garden centre and explain what your requirements are I.E.  Do you want to be able to leave them for periods so that you can go on holiday, do you want flowering or just leaves, how big etc. You should also look around the country side to see what is growing naturally in the summer, take some pictures to show the garden centre the type.
There are a couple of big garden centres in Burmerrad and they will deliver.
