I REALLY THINK THAT IN THE FIELD OF EXPATRIATE, PEOPLE ARE THE COMMON DENOMINATOR OF PROGRESS BECAUSE NO IMPROVEMENT IS POSSIBLE WITH UNIMPROVED PEOPLE.

Hello, Hadeer. I am belorussian and I live in Minsk.
It seems that you had a bad luck. Yes, our people may seem gloomy when you see them in the streets. But have you tried to make friends with anyone? I have a few friends from abroad. One of them lived at my place for several days (couchserfing). All of them say that belarussians are very hospitable and friendly.

hello friends, i had one of my business partner visiting us in India recently from Minsk and i did find her all the time looking serious. But good to hear that all people are not like that. I am planning to be in Minsk and Grodno in May end . Let me see my luck over there :-)

Hahaha.. you know, one of my friends told me just the same thing! He said I was looking toooo serious.
His words surprized me as I am not really very serious. But that's how I looked when we met, I suppose.

Hey. I do not think that Belarus is not friendly people. In each country there are individuals that spoil the view of the country. But in general, all people are fairly simple and responsive.

i have been living in Minsk since a year and i have not yet found a single friends So far . Only sometimes some people(guys) trying to flirt around and it is totally weird for me.

Well you know I live in Minsk all my life and to me make friends is not that simple actually (I believe that's because I'm introvert). The majority of people I know came from 3 directions: school/university, work and Internet. If you don't get along with people at work try to find friends on the Internet. Throw social-networks you can find people with same interests. Minsk is quite boring city I think

Well, I believe they're bored too. If to be serious you must have seen high prices and low incomings of average belarusian family, so when you try to figure out how to pay for children's education dying in stuffy bus during summer or freezing to death in winter there's nothin' much to be smiling about. As for me I am often just deep in my thoughts so my face looks rather serious than gloomy

How about you? Do you smile to people?

Where are you studying at? Maybe we're from the same University

i study in Economic University in Vaneeba.
Its jst been 1 year it might takes some more time for me to know well about everything here i guess .

before it used to say Narkhos . Now i know it is as BGEU ie. Beloryski ekonomicheski unibersitet. I know russian a bit iiil:)

Hi Belarus, I find belarus quite different , lovely people with beautiful smile...

In minsk if you don't know russian you will be bored definately.

I agree with your view about the hospitality of belarussian people. I was in Minsk in october of 2010 I am on couchsurfing.org , I am Eric from Lyon, France.. can we keep in touch with skype or couchsurfing by the way marina ? Have a good day, dasvidania, poka poka Eric
