Vietnam suspends a few nationalities from VISA application

charmavietnam

COVID-19 is a global problem not only in Vietnam.
Many countries already restricted entry and closed borders.
Vietnam now only allow people from safe countries with visa obtained from departing countries' consulate/embassy.
VOA letter issued before also now difficult to enter. Heard send back someone to India before landing in Vietnam.
People who obtained any kind of visa should double check before they start to travel. It's not a good time to go up and down.
Please don't be panic but keep calm and follow instructions for your safety and others!
There are many ways to die. Why should we die in a terrible stage with COVID-19 and spread to others?
So all we need is personal hygiene and patience which will save you and others from spreading!

Here is a good and latest read:
New Evidence Shows How COVID-19 Has Affected Global Air Pollution

Some foreigners trapped in Chinese quarantine centers, complaining about food the authority supplying. They want to order Mc Donald's, KFC from outside :D
Luckily, in Vietnam, we don't have such situation.
Vietnam government is trying maximum not to spread for more people while many people rushing to come here for work/tour!
Revenue from tourism is not greater than citizens' or residents' life!
So wait some more time before jump!
Hope it will end before June/July !

I hope you have good insurance or are covered for treatment if you do get unlucky.

Could set you back around 5k USD (hearsay) and their Government won’t cover it.

Did find this quote from a friend that overstayed by 6 months a short while ago. . . .

'HOW MUCH FINE DO YOU HAVE TO PAY WHEN YOU OVERSTAY YOUR VISA?

In Vietnam, the fines of overstaying a visa are charged by days if your overstaying is not too serious, for instance, only for a few days.

However, if you are determined by the Vietnamese government that you overstay your visa for a long time on purpose, and have repeated this offense several times, the punishment can be severe. Deportation is a sure thing in this case.

Here are some of the estimates of the fines for overstaying your visa:

Overstaying for no more than 10 days: VND 1,250,000 (US$ 55 USD)
Overstaying for no more than 30 days (1 month): VND 4,000,000 (US$ 175)
Overstaying for more than 1 month but fewer than 3 months: VND 10,000,000 VND (US$ 440)
Overstaying for one year: more than VND 16,000,000 VND (US$ 700), along with deportation and prohibition to enter the country for a specified period.
If however you notify Immigration and the reason for your overstay can be considered reasonable or unavoidable the fines may be reduced '.

Above may be the official policy but you will still likely get blacklisted.  That's where the $3000-$4000 fee to get off the black list comes into play.

Regarding VEC, new rule as of today:

People who are exempt from a visa will be required to submit documents proving they have tested negative for COVID-19 issued by an authorized agency and accepted by Vietnam in order to enter the Southeast Asian country.

The same rule will be applied to those who possess visa exemption certificates, which are issued for overseas Vietnamese and their family members, and to special cases, namely specialists, business managers, and skilled workers.

I wonder if this would apply on a visa run?  Only out of the country less than an hour...

Will agree to disagree as have known several cases and none were either blacklisted or paid $4k.
Have a good afternoon.

Fancybear

no guesses should be allowed on this forum as there's going to be few places left to get facts if you make guesses about the behaviour of immigration officials you do not know and have no inside track to. Only known provable facts on here please. Disregard guesses about blacklists or remove it

You don't need to take a 'border run' to extend the visa. You can do it inside Vietnam during this COVID-19 situation.
If you go immigration office, it's cheap but agents are ripping off !

Unfortunately some offices wont do it unless you use an agent. This is the case in Ba Ria.

Have no doubt that it is always possible to find an exception to the rule on any post. Can only speak from personal experience, which to me at least is far more valuable than some of the stuff that crops up on here.

I guess I'm going to go back to just reading and cut back on posting.  Carry on gentlemen.

I suppose we could do the same with your posts on Corona virus, you haven't experienced it,so we could take those posts in the same way.

I can give you the phone number of a guy who has been doing visas in Vietnam for 15 years, he is an expat, so communication is no problem. He can tell you of a blacklist case that he just handled. I will await your reply.

Hello Gentlemen,

Please stay focus on the topic.

Thank you :)

Extremesalsa

Hey, do you know if it's possible to extend a tourist visa in HCMC in person due to the Coronavirus? I was trying to hide out and get some work done and just realized the world is apparently ending.

I emailed a couple of agents I've dealt with before to get info, but if I can do it in person at the VN immigration office that'd be better. Finding clear info is nearly impossible online. I had planned to do a month in BKK before coming back here, but it looks like Thailand is about ready to shut down its borders as well. I'm from the US and hoping to stay in Asia for the next few months until sanity hopefully begins to seep back in. Cheers.

If you trust the VOA agent and the extension is possible, you can do the extension through email/WhatsApp with any equipped agent in the country.

If you need a referral, send me a private message and I'll give you the contact information for my agent in Hanoi.

Good luck!

Health and Travel Alert – U.S. Embassy Hanoi and U.S. Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (March 17, 2020)

Location:  Vietnam

Event:  There is an ongoing outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  The Government of Vietnam has implemented enhanced screening to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi and the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City have received information that the Vietnamese government is likely to take the following steps imminently:

•        Require all travelers entering Vietnam with visas to undergo a health check and mandatory 14-day quarantine.  This will apply to, among others, all U.S. citizen travelers and persons born in Vietnam but holding passports from other countries.  This policy is likely to be put in place within the next day.

•         Cease visa issuance worldwide, as of today, March 17, 2020.

•         Make all ASEAN travelers subject to a health check and mandatory 14-day quarantine effective within the next day.

•           The situation remains fluid and government of Vietnam requirements may change with little to no notice.

Visit the local government COVID-19 website (in Vietnamese): https://ncov.moh.gov.vn/ for updated information.

If there was any doubt about this, it is now in effect (as of 00:00 on 18 March). Widely being reported now.  Discussion of specifics from a well-vetted source (Vietnamlawmagaine.vn) here >  Vietnam suspends visa granting to foreigners for 30 days

Careful.

Both of the agents I know in Hanoi said 3 months extension is the max at the moment.

Before the virus crisis, extensions were already significantly higher than replacement/new visas.

Crunch the numbers and see if the higher numbers for service at home (pickup and delivery) are comparable to the average expense (and inconvenience?) of a border run?

Vietnam Wednesday confirmed eight new coronavirus cases – three foreigners and five Vietnamese including a 11-year-old boy – bringing the national Covid-19 total to 76.

The 6 month visa extension is still available for 5yr VEC's according to the district officer here although more expensive than the 3 month. Can only be done twice during the 5 yr period.

so basically they want us to leave. my only option is to apply for a one month visa extension from within vietnam. I think I can do that twice. but what happens in two months from now when the numbers explode? then I will be forced to leave when there are no flights and i have no where to go in the USA and won't be able to get supplies.

what to do?!

I did not say it was illegal, it isn't.
But with a few on here claiming to know everything there is to know about everything then there is little point explaining. The only way I know for sure that saves a great deal of money is a process I have almost completed which I will relay to the guy asking for advice.
