Good Rainsuits in Vietnam???

Wild_1

Hi guys,

It poured here in Can Tho yesterday and, a few months back, I had given away my rain coat.  Now, I need to get myself a new one real fast because the rain season is about to begin.  (Please you Three Amigos, I do not mean the ones you buy on the side of the roads here!  :D  Do you know of any place that sells decent rainsuits, or coats will do as well?  Thanks in advance.

The best ones are like those worn by EVN crews.

They are two-piece with bibs on the pants. They are sold in industrial clothing supply outlets. There's one on CMT8, Quan 1, TP HCM.

What size do you need?

This shows the style. You won't win a
fashion show but, boy, will you be bone dry.

Jaitch,

What is EVN?  I really hope that it is a proper, upstanding outfit, yeah?  It will not be very funny if it is the Vietnamese state penitentiary unit...  Can you imagine, they mistaken me for one of them guys and throw me in, along with the rest?  :sosad:

They have other colors too, don't they?  Well...  I don't play in the rain too much; and I guess I can learn to live with orange (I had just finished making fun of a guy with an orange polo shirt too...).  :proud  This is not going to be good.  Nonetheless, that looks like a nice rain coat.  Do they have the bottoms as well?

Anyhow, I am 5'9" and medium-built.  I guess I should not have much problem getting into one of these coats.  If you have a chance, could you please give the name and/or address of the place.  Thanks a lot, Jaitch.

Anatta

Bought a poncho in the supermarket in Thao Dien, D2. Don't remember the brand but cost me over 200KVND if I remember correctly. Quite happy with the quality. Solid and come with a pouch.

Wild_1

That sounds about right:  Anatta + Poncho = 1Amigo. :top:

I wonder what Budman1 and Sir Alex wear?  :/

EVN???? Electricity VietNam!

They have all the colours you want as long as it's ORANGE. Comes with pants, too.

These aren't fashion statements, that's why EVB uses them. You can stand outside in a monsoon all day and still be dry. I use mine when scooting long distance, say to DakLak.

I will be back in TP HCM Tuesday or Wednesday and will check the stock, and also see if there are any at Danh Sinh Market.

Hi Jaitch,

Karma, karma...  Now, learn to like orange, I must.

But, that is very kind of you, man.  Thanks a lot.

104 Yersin Street D1, it's a dark eerie place that sells anything and everything but food.
Electric tools, alarms, and a lot (and I mean A LOT) of uniforms, safety boots, and safety gear. Most likely they have those rain suits or really good quality ponchos there.

My husband and his co workers found the place while looking for tools for the factory they are building and now they go every other weekend. They have found just about everything they needed there and more. It looks like just another row of stores but if you go through the stores there's a whole world (think Ben Thanh Market size) behind, alleys and all.

Wild_1

Melba,

Thanks for looking it up for me.  But, are you sure there is a Yersin Street in HCMC?  It sounds so foreign...

Howie

Jaitch

hahahhaha yes there is a Yersin Street. Been there quite a few times.

Funny how foreign it sounds ha!

FYI Wild_1:  "Yersin Street was named after French biologist and adventurer Alexandre Yersin. He is honored as the founder of Vietnam's Pasteur Institutes, IndoChina Medical university, Dalat city and other valuable facilities. This street is one of three Yersin streets located in Hanoi, Nha Trang and HCMC."

GOOGLE is great for stuff like this.

You are talking about the overpriced (10-15%) CHO DAN SINH that sells knock off American War surplus freshly made last week.

Melba525, whisper two words in your hsband's ear TO UYEN. Makes Dan Sinh look like a fleas market. If he starts at the intersection of To Uyen with Hung Vuong Street and wals up To Uyen he will find all number of tool and material supplies at far, far better pricing than Dan Sinh.

Best Rain Coats- those rubber ones, only blue, same Style as the fisher man wear. Trouser & jacket around 130 000 VND in the hardware stores (fishing hooks, batteries, screws and bamboo sticks) in the country side. Lasting for about 1 rain season - after- they tend to break on the shoulder. Best ever, they only should last a bit longer
