Banks with the largest ATM Withdrawal Limits
OB, no, it's a Chase ATM card. Any thoughts? What should I expect to pay for food/day in Danang are for 2 weeks roughly?
Thanks so much for the help. We arrive the 28th of March.

I don't have a clue what the features of your card are, whether there are foreign transaction fees and whether the bank charges foreign exchange fees and whether or not they rebate your ATM fees.
Similar answer to the question about food.
I don't have a clue what kind of food you like whether you want to eat street food the whole time you're here or try out the best restaurants in town, or if you're going to have a kitchenette and you're going to go to a local market and shop for stuff.
You can also save a lot of money eating away from the expat bubble at places that are normally frequented only by Vietnamese people.
find the area you're going to be staying on Google maps and then zero in on some listings for restaurants and cafes and see if you can pull up menus for the places that interest you.
if you're that concerned about the cost of food then it might be a good idea to book a hotel that gives you a breakfast buffet.
But doesn't your girlfriend have family there?
I'm going to guess you're going to have a lot of free meals.
@jculpepper22 it depends on how long you'll be here and how much you plan on spending. Most ATM's here only dispense 2 to 5 million dong which isn't much. Try to use your credit cards to pay for as much as you can as that's the best exchange you'll get. Just try and use ones that have no international fees. Many don't. If you bring cash you can bring up to $4000 per person. You will find way better exchange rates at local gold shops than the banks. Hope this helps
@OceanBeach92107 OB, yes her family lives here so we will be going to the local places, which I prefer and I am very excited about the local cuisine, especially since so much Seafood in Danang area.
I will bring a lot of cash and leave at the family house but will check with Chase on the ATM card over there to be safe.
Thanks again for the assistance.
Where are you located? Would be nice to have a beer with you if you're close by.

Sounds good.
Your fiancé's family will know just the right place to exchange your crisp, unblemished dollars into đồng at the best rate.
If you can, bring some $2.00 bills, as they are especially appreciated by Vietnamese people.
I'll send you a private message with a couple of off-topic recommendations for a special night out with your future inlaws.
Otherwise, I recommend staying away from the tourist ghetto (An Thượng) with a few exceptions.
We are living in Hội An and would be happy to meet you here or perhaps somewhere up in Đà Nẵng.
Cheers!
My atm works just fine at VP Bank at $40 million in one transaction. Yours might work for 20 dong who knows. But I'll keep going where it works for me. Also, I read people's comments who ate worried it cost them an extra $1 to use the ATM. Man, if your time is that worthless to worry about a buck, you've got bigger problems than an ATM fee.

The other factor you are leaving unsaid is the card you are using.
Certain cards have been reported to be able to withdraw larger sums than others.

My experience today.............. I was very interested about these large one transaction ATM withdrawals cos saves a lot of hassle. So off I goes with my (in credit 27,000usd +-cash in account) SCHWAB ONE BROKERAGE Debit card in hand & heads down to VPBANK ATM at AEON Mall. Did the biz & requested 30 mil vnd, nothing & card spat out, so tries 20mil vnd same again rejected & card spat out, so tries 10 mil vnd & same again so just to make sure I am doing everything right tries for 2 mil vnd & Bob's yer Uncle success. So got on the old Mobylette & runs up to VPBANK ATM on Le Trong Tan Street & tries again & exactly the same.
So @Jeff73 can you enlighten me what VPBANK ATM you are using to get 40 mil in one transaction as I would really like to take advantage of this facility!

Don't t be sad GOB, but Jeff has left the room 😎
Today I was near:
VPBANK HỘI AN (branch w/ATM)
523 Đ. Hai Bà Trưng
Cẩm Phổ, Hội An
So I decided to attempt a ₫10,000,000 VNĐ withdrawal with my Schwab Visa debit card (standard domestic account, not an international account such as yours).
Rejected and advised by screen to "contact my bank".
Attempted 5 million with the same exact rejection.
By that time I was thinking that VP bank is one of the banks I've had problems with in the past.
I'm pretty sure I couldn't get my card to work at a Quy Nhơn branch ATM.
So I walked across the street to the MB bank ATM and withdrew 5 million twice and 2 million 1 time.
I've said this in many threads (and tried to get Jeff to respond) about the specific card being used and also the specific networks that card supports.
The casual reader of this thread should be aware that it's not just the ATM machine that determines the amount of your withdrawals and the charges, but also the card you are using and the networks that your card supports.
Even in the case of Schwab cards, I'm thinking that the international account may be able to access more ATMs then the domestic account.
Obviously Jeff was a gazillionaire with a secret magic card that opens every machine in the world...
@OceanBeach92107
So your card never locks up after that many tries? I would hate to have to call customer service to get it unlock. i am going to Hanoi this July and got my Charles Schwab debit a few weeks ago. Looking forward to testing it out.
I am going to test it out in one of the ATMs in the state first.

The only times (twice in 2018) I've had a problem with the machine holding on to my card is when I have taken the money and gotten busy putting it into my wallet and not withdrawn the card as soon as possible (30 seconds was the limit both times).
Most of the machines I use now (especially MB Bank ATMs) requiring me to withdraw my card before they will dispense the cash.
If a machine doesn't give you what you want on the first try there's really no purpose in trying the exact same withdrawal again.
Trying a smaller amount on the next attempt is a perfectly normal thing over here.
if you have your email and text alerts set up properly, you will get at least one immediate notification on your smartphone anytime you (or a thief) use your card and it's successful.
@expatvn22 Today (25Nov2023), we were able to withdraw 5,000,000 VND = $206 USD from VPbank in District 5 of Ho Chi Minh City.
With my Fidelity or Schwab ATM cards, I always avoid Vietnamese bank ATMs. Limit too low. My guess is that they want you to withdraw as often as possible to eat the fee. Also, I'm not sure what their exchange rates are. Hanoi, or Saigon I always go out of my way to a Citibank or HSBC ATM. In Saigon, the Citibank ATM at the Sun Wah building on Nguyen Hue were always reliable, with 8 million VND limit each time. I've been back since Citi sold it to UOB and the exchange rate the the limit remained the same.
@jculpepper22
I go at TP Bank ATMs. And I can withdraw 2 x 5 million dongs each day, if wanted. The other part depends on the limits of your own bank.
@OceanBeach92107
OB92107, what is the name of the 3 US banks that would provide those services. I currently have Citi bank and well Fargo. Tks

Please go back to your post you are replying to. Please quote my post so I can answer you in context. Otherwise I'm clueless as to what post you are referring to
I watch many youtube videos of Vloggers in Vietnam and have two questions I don't see covered. What is the situation to drive and rent a scooter? I just read for Canadians the International Drivers license is not accepted? It is in Thailand. But it said something about having a visa for 3 months. Can someone explain this in detail please.
Question #2. I don't see any safety deposit boxes in the rental apartments or condos? unless they just don't show them? if not, where do we keep our passport and money, etc. safe? That is crazy important especially if I bring more cash on me at the start of arriving? thanks
@callaway4000
Any one can operate an under 90cc motorbike without a license. As for safe deposit box depends on the quality of your hotel or apartment, the under 500k vnđ hotel might not have the safe avail. You can keep your important document in your suitcase with lock or have the hotel mgmt keep if for you in their safe box. Relax and enjoy.
