Marrying a Thai Woman and living in Thailand

I am a Master Level Therapist and musician in Arizona. I also was a former science teacher. I am semi-retired. I have a nice relationship with a Thai lady, who wants to get married. She understands that I will still have to work PT to supplement my social security. I do have many things I can do in teaching, music, counseling and business. My main question has to do with (1) what qualifications does a married partner have to have to stay in Thailand, and (2) Does the Thai medical system cover a spouse of a Thai National, meaning that I could just cancel my medicare and receive my whole social security check.

Hi Alkomusic,

because you have a University Degree it will help you obtain work, you can look for work in the teaching field,
When you marry a Thai woman you can obtain a O class visa, a retirement visa. If you work you need a working visa which you will get from teaching.

Forget about Thailand supporting you as far a Medical Expenses. You can obtain this as part of your package when employed at one of the many schools where they require English speaking teachers.

I hope this made your questions a little bit clearer.
Wish you best luck.
Medicare only works in US of A. so you would be paying for something ya cant use here...
Hi PCMAN
I read your posting with interest, I have a retirement Visa and will be returning from the UK with my Thai fiance on a permanent basis in April 2017.
Whilst concluding my business in the UK i have undertaken a TEFL course in order for me to enter the teaching profession on a part time/full time basis. We have a home in the dark side and my question is where do I start to seek employment, many ad's from companies offering to find you work are out there but of course as everything at a cost. Any advice or direction you could point me in would be very much appriciated, best wishes Jeff
You cannot get a work permit against a retirement visa. You will need to obtain a spousal visa in order to qualify for a working permit.
I have a suggestion. Research schools in your city of choice. I am somewhat familiar with the schools in Chiang Mai. Look for the international schools. Also look at the pay scales. Some definitely pay less while tuition is competitive. That's a very good way to side step head hunters. Plus your TEFL school should have listings of schools within your targeted city.
