Sending a small teak object to the US

rzugnoni

I live in NE Thailand and I designed and made my own CNC router. My first project was an 8.5" x 11" x 0.75" relief carving of an owl on a piece of teak that I had. My plan was to send it to a friend of mine in the US as a gift. The local post office gave my wife a form that shows items that are restricted from sending. Teak is one of the items. I'm not sure what paperwork is required and Google searches for this are useless. I should of realized that something like this might happen as my wife had to obtain the paperwork necessary for her to acquire and transport the teak within Thailand.

I was wondering if anyone knows of the LEGAL procedures that I need to use to send something like this to the US? I do not want to try anything sneaky as it isn't worth it if caught.

Thanks,

Randy

I have always had great success and experience with UPS in Thailand -- mainly in the Udon Thani office. They have always been helpful and even assisted me in getting a lithium battery shipped, which is a restricted item if shipped without being within some product. All happened with the correct paperwork and without a hitch.

I'd contact FedEx and HDL in Thailand too. I've had good experiences with both of them, too.

Thank you. Those are great ideas.
