Where is the best part of Visayas to live?
I want a place that is elevated and wont flood and also benefit from nice breezes and at the same time is close to the main stream city.
My wife is from Davao but I don't want to live there. I am guessing it will take about 9-12 months to get organised and move. I will come there earlier to buy a property. I was in Cebu about 3 weeks ago but only for about 3 days and it was a busy time.
I would appreciate any information I can get from people living there.
Thank you for reading my post.

My question to you is: Why would a perfectly sane person tempt fate?

Sometimes it is a good idea to live at least an island away from family.

If you go on to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Travel (DFAT) and read the travel warnings, it clearly tells you not to go to Southern and Western Mindanao and to re-consider your need to travel to any other part of Mindanao. This warning is not only on the Australian Government website but US and several other Western Countries. Ignorance can be extremely dangerous and with a "I don't really care attitude" you will never get a second chance! Television news is also a wonderful and educational tool when it comes to finding out what happens in other parts of the world as too is Yahoo and Google!

well if there were travel warnings for other countries -then they would probably tell you not to visit usa /paris and several other parts of the world ,as someone that has visited there several times and know many foreigners living there -i think i would have more idea than some plonkers that have never even left their own country ,however as you do have google -maybe you could research which places in philippines are supposed to be safest? no matter where you live -there is some risk -whether its from being killed in an accident or any number of bad things ,so it might be better to stay in australia where its 100% safe .

sure if you dont happen to like the family ,i live thousands of miles from my relatives but would rather live with them
I guess a smart man like yourself would probably take a holiday in Syria!!!!!
Maybe you should ask him a few questions regarding, has he been there before.
Too many people jump the gun and make assumptions not knowing the full history of a person.
Everyone likes to offer advice both bad and good and so many of those people know nothing themselves, particularly the Irish!

Your first post on here and you are making negative generalizations about the Irish. Can't wait for the next piece of wisdom from the Wizard of Oz (Ignore that man behind the curtain!)
Yes, you are correct, I did make negative generalizations when I was in fact aiming at a particular desk jockey in Ireland!!! How easy it is for one to err! I apologize for being human! God save the Queen!

I can only give my own opinion here
I live in Mactan, Cebu is a great place to live, for the reason of the many things you can do here
if your like me, and your hobby is photography, then the many landmarks, historical places are great for pics,
not to mention you have 6 other islands you can visit on a weekend, especially Bantantan
With all the beach resorts here in Mactan it's easy to go somewhere for a day out at the beach, no need to pay the entrance fee, just tell the guard when entering the resort your coming for lunch or breakfast lol
being white, they mostly think your staying there anyway
also Mactan is so much quieter than Cebu City too, easy to get around, less traffic
I went to Cebu before Christmas but I did not have time to explore the real estate available, however I have friends that live in Cebu city and they are my eyes there.
I think I will fly over there in a few weeks I when I have time to just look at real estate and nothing else. I must admit Mactan is high on my priority list. Thank you.
"Saekyung Village 1 is on Marigondon Beach Road"
Yea and agree, Plantation is far from cheap, i was there 2 weeks ago for a look around, lunch for the 2 of us was very expensive, it was 220 php just for a can of coke ,, i nearly fell off my chair when the bill came lol
Reason : Do not share contact infos on forum + drop your advert in Housing section please.
there are many other places like the Island of Samal with Paradise Beach which is nice and well organised which is very close to Davao
I hope I have given you another place to consider

Great information. Thank you. I stayed at Palmeto down Maa Road last time there. I shopped at NCCC Mall and yes the Malls are huge.
In fact, I like Davao. Obviously Duterte did a great job as mayor and now you have him as President I see. I believe there are interesting times ahead for the Phils.
I went past the crocodile park on route to Digos City but never went there. I think it would be an interesting place to explore.
I will send you a private message and keep in touch rather than a public forum.
Cheers
Steve

Since your wife is from Davao I'm sure you will want to live somewhere that Bisayan is spoken so Bacolod and Iloilo are out of the question so I would recommend Tagbilaran or Dumaguete for smaller city life. For a 800 peso round trip ticket on a fastcraft you could be in Cebu in 2 hours if you live in Tagbilaran. 5 hours bus ride and you can be in Cebu from Dumaguete.
foreigners , beaches, golf courses, schools, and malls. most of the wholesome restaurants are there,
I should know cuz I grew up there . am in Canada and travel due to business in the states and the
Philippines. oh, lot s of new housing developments are all over the place. they have an international
airport , and its the laid back attitude of the place that will get you.
If you need more info, just email me , and I hope you get more out of this. lots of expats get the wrong
info, and in most cases, I hope I can relate to what you plan to do.
Cheers,
a friend
p.s. google it if you want..Bacolod City
