soon to be moving to Tripoli

Hi all

I am a 23yo female and In 1-2 weeks i will be moving to Tripoli, Regatta to be more precice so i have been told by my employer.

I am just wondering how people meet over there since there isnt really any nightlife. Are there many things to do?

I am really looking forward to this as i think it will be a great oppetunity, i have recently lived in Dubai and loved it and have also lived in fiji which was nice.

Hi Ellise!

Having moved here from Abu Dhabi, I will say prepare yourself for a drastic difference in the two countries. Libya is more... rustic than Abu Dhabi.

There are things to do here, as long as you are creative. And locals are much more approachable than the in Gulf states (Obivously for a man).

Hi

I hope that everything's going well with you. Answering to your question, there's not a nightlife in Tripoli what so ever, it's like being in Saudi Arabia for instance but with more freedom in many acpects, it's not like being in Australia, or even Lebanon my country of origin. closed parties only between friends, I guess so, it will be a little hard for a young lady like you, but on the other hand we have to see what best for our career. Regards.

Hi Ellise,

Which company are you going to be working for. (sorry, no question mark my keyboard is busted!)

There's a fairly good expat social scene over here once you get to know the right people.

Oh...and I always thought that "nightlife" was created as a congregational premating ritual for devolved homosapiens. Since when did it become a platform for social interaction?

I don't think you will have any problem making contacts once you arrive.

Yes, there are not any 'nightclubs', but depending on who you work for and who you know, there is a 'club' and some private events to attend.
I am sure you have been added as a contact by a few already.

Get your multi-entry visa so you can take advantage of seeing some of the neighboring countries. It is fairly inexpensive to get around and you may need to recharge your batteries.

it really depends on ... u .. the night life in libya is not that great .... there are'nt any bars at all ...

Abu Dhabi and Libya are on the opposite sides of whatever you can think of.
Sorry for you (and us).
The last places we have been to in the arabic speeking side of the world where Qatar and Jordan.

Hi Ellise,

I also live on Regatta. I would say ask your Employer if you can get access to the Club 8 so you can use the gym and pool.

It can be a bit boring on Regatta so having the use of the facilities at the club can help break it up a bit.

Im new here too (from the US) but am in BG. If you ever make it out this way shoot me a PM and I'll give you my cell #. I've noticed some late night hanging out in coffee shops by the fellas here but I don't know what would happen if we did the same. Most of my nightlife (outside of visiting people in their home) has consisted of being driven around the city and shopping. I dont know how late stores stay open in TR but fairly late here.
