How do I truly feel at home in Ghana as a visitor?

Profaynic

Hi everyone. I am a 36 year old Indian heading to Accra and Takoradi for work for about one and a half months, and I will likely be traveling back and forth every few months after that. This is my first international trip, so I am excited and also curious about what to expect. I do not want this to be just a work visit where I stay in a hotel and leave. I genuinely want to understand the culture, connect with people and gradually feel at home. More importantly, I want to feel good there and also make others feel comfortable around me. I do not want to unintentionally stay in an expat circle or come across as distant.

I would really appreciate advice on:

What Takoradi is like in daily life

How different it is from Accra

The best ways to build genuine local connections

Cultural norms or etiquette I should be aware of

Food that I must try

Places near Takoradi that are worth exploring

Common mistakes newcomers make

Also, how are Indians generally perceived in Ghana?
