Probably the most asked question of all time is whether we are alone in this universe. Throughout human history civilisations have looked at the stars and wondered if there are other civilisations out there. Only the last few decades we have the knowledge and technology to structurally study the existence of alien lifeforms. Since the launch of the Kepler telescope in 2009, already over 2.000 possible “Earth-like” planets have been discovered in our own Milky-Way Galaxy. With an estimate of more than 100 billion galaxies in the universe (!!!) the chances for the existence of a life-supporting planet, it is argued by many astronomers, are significant.

Despite all this very expensive ongoing research, the scientific study of the existence of already existing extra-terrestrial life on Earth and unidentified flying objects (UFO) in the Earth’s atmosphere is rather scarce. For this talk Expat Club invited Prof Dr. Coen Vermeeren, an aerospace engineer and former Professor at the Technical University Delft, who is an expert on the subject.

We all have seen several or even many science fiction movies on UFOs or extra-terrestrial life, including Star Trek and Star Wars, Spielberg’s ET and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Aliens, and of course Independence Day. On the white screen the topic has become serious business, but outside Hollywood the believe in the existence of UFO is often received with scepticism.

This lack of interest for the scientific community is remarkable, because the number of reported UFO sightings around the world is huge. Such a widespread phenomenon should be worth studying, one could argue. Also, it concerns not only “regular John Does” who spot unexplainable things in the sky, but apparently also numerous scientists, famous people, pilots and even astronauts. Still, structural academic research on these sightings is virtually non-existent. Some scientists, such as the famous astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, claim that the evidence is simply lacking because eye-witness reports are not strong enough evidence to base conclusions on.

Dr. Vermeeren will present the facts that he documented in his book and share his views on why there is so much secrecy around the topic. It will be a highly interesting talk, with many examples and stories. There will be much time to ask questions to our guest speaker. Needless to say, it is up to you to draw your own conclusions about whether ET is real or not.

Registration for this talk is required. Just leave your name and email address in the field above. If you are a member you can register by logging in first and by clicking the RSVP button.
