Babe Ruth:  The Sultan of Swat a.k.a. The Bambino.

The Babe so dominated the sports world that one or two nicknames were not enough.

Born George Herman Ruth, Jr. in Baltimore, Maryland, he was such an unruly boy that
his parents sent him to a Catholic reformatory, St. Mary's school.  There Brother Matthias
was devoted to disciplining and guiding troubled youth and giving them sports opportunities.

As a New York Yankee, the Babe shattered home run records (60 in 1927, 714 lifetime), individually swatting more four-baggers than many teams .. and transforming the sport.  He lifted baseball from the doldrums of the dead-ball era and the Black Sox scandal
to become the beloved national pastime.

Lady Di and Duch.

Princess Diana
gained these nicknames even before she became the bride of the
Prince of Wales at age 20.

Diana was more than a royal trendsetter;  she was a patron, all told, of more than
100 charities prior to her untimely death. (harpersbazaar.com)  She changed
the face of the monarchy, bringing it closer to the British people through her
personal style and charm.

As a girl, she had been nicknamed "Duch" for duchess because of the regal way she conducted herself. She continued to use this nickname even after becoming a member of Britain's royal family.  (thelist.com)

Diana officially 'received the style' of Lady -- Lady Di -- after her father inherited the title of Earl Spencer in 1975. (royal.uk)  The nickname became known worldwide after she married Charles, the Prince of Wales.
