I am an indian nation and moved to Brussels 4 yrs ago.
I have a daughter who is 2.5 and started going to a local french school. In the meanwhile we shifted our residence and moved near zaventum in March.
A bit unfortunate as my baby was enrolled in a school near brussels central.
Now, its a bit difficuly to find a school for this year as the classes are already full so my questions are,
a. is it ok if my daughter does not continue schooling till we get a school nearby to our new place because the travel time is too much and she suffers a bit more and gets tired.
b. is it mandatory to send a 2.5 yrs to maternelle or kindergarten. Will she loose a year if I get a admission next year, or the new school will directly move her to maternelle-2 as per her age bracket.
c. Me and my spouse speak dutch pretty well, so we are inclined to send her to a sutch local school, but I also want that my baby learns english. Is it possible in Dutch or French local schools in Belgium ?
d. Which schools are better in terms of infrastructure and facilities near zaventum,or evere for that matter.
Thanks in advance for your time and answers. I just dont want my child's education to hamper because of our move.

Mandatory Education for Children in Brussels
You asked this question in another forum and got a fantastic and accurate responses.
I've copied it here. Please follow J's advice. There are only a few schools in Zaventem, locate your nearest 2 or 3, visit them, apply.
Here is also the complete list of 8 Zaventem basisscholen. There are no maternelles (that is French or Kindergarten (that is German) . You need to look for kleuterscholen / basisscholen.
If you actually name where you live, instead of "near Zaventem", I could give you a more accurate list of schools.

a) Yes.
b) Education compulsory from 3rd maternelle, so age 5. If her DoB is 2016, she starts september 2020, if 2017 in september 2021.
c) Local Dutch school is a good idea if you live in Zaventem.
Almost all Belgian kids with a decent education speak good to excellent English by the time they've finished university. You have another 20 years - no need to rush it.
d) Close to where you live. You'll be able to answer that question yourself by the time it matters.

Yea, indeed, I was happy with the answer from J, but you see you surely get more information when it is posted in multiple columns.
Also, some one else who is in a similar situation can benefit from this.
I have move to Machelen, hence I was considering schools in Zaventum or Evere cause both are more or less equidistant from my place.
Would be glad if you can share some information for Machelen and Evere as well.
I will then zero in my search and finalize what needs to be done.
Why do you not consider the Machelen schools? It makes no logical sense to school in Zaventem. What advantage? Evere would be disastrous. Are you not aware of the deplorable state of Flemish education in Brussels?

Diegem, Haren, Vilvoorde, Melsbroek and Zaventem are in any case nearer to Machelen than Evere. I would advise you to take a look on a map and take a look on the Onderwijs Vlaanderen website for the lists and maps of school. Diegem has 2 basisscholen, Haren has 3 basisscholen, the next 5 nearest schools to Machelen. Evere schools are a long way down the list of proximity.
