Car importation

Hi, I'm Jon, recently moved to Gib from the UK and waiting for my residency card. I am looking to buy a new or nearly new car and wondered if anyone has experience with importing a new LHD car from the UK VAT free and paying the import tax in Gib? It seems that the duty on a large car would be 35% but I thought I read somewhere that if its brand new and a personal import the tax drops to 17.5% but I'm not sure. Also, it seems that hybrid cars, of any size, attract only a 5% import tax although charging them in Gib might be a challenge!
Any guidance would be much appreciated!
