Do and don't in Montenegro

Are you living in Montenegro? We need you to share your experience of the local customs :)

Is it difficult to adjust to the local customs in Montenegro?

Could you please share with us a list of the do's and don't's in Montenegro?

Thanks!

Some random trivialities :

Dont expect a wave or nod of thanks from another road user when you are being courteous. If you're lucky you might get a short sound of the horn. You should reply with another short sound of your horn if you want to say "you're welcome".

If you're invited to a locals house be prepared to drink shots of their homemade grappa (aka lozza, rakija) irrespective of the time of day. Protestations that you have to drive will get you nowhere.

Pavements are for parking not pedestrians, most of whom choose to walk in the road.

More another time perhaps ...

*** DONTs ***

> If you are charged 15,02 € at the supermarket, dont bother to look for the 02 cents in your purse, alternatively, if you are charged 14,98 €, don't wait for your 02 cents back, you will definitely look like a tourist !!  :)

> Don't let the person at the till give you 5 plastic bags for a single item !! There is a strange habit here of putting everything into 3 or 4 plastic bags...

*** DOs ***

> Make an effort (even if you are British  ;) !) to speak the local language, even just for a few words (Hvala, Molim, Prijatno, Dovidjenia....) or a few sentences (jedan kafa sa mlijekom, pola kilo sir...) - You will see a gentle smile on the local person's face.

> Have your car lights ON at all times when driving !!!!
