How to bring your car to Australia

Hello everybody,

If you exported your car to Australia, were there any formalities that needed to be completed beforehand? What were they?

What is the best way to export your car? Is there a limit on the number of vehicles, or perhaps the age of the vehicle? Are there limits on emissions or emission controls in Australia?

What are the expected costs of exporting a car? In your opinion, is it worth it?

Once you arrived in Australia, what were the applicable taxes? What was the customs process like?

How do you go about registering an imported car in Australia?

Is it best to buy a car once you have arrived or to bring your car with you, in your opinion?

We look forward to hearing from you!

I did not bring my car to Australia. However, my advice is to sell your car where you are and just bring money to buy another car here. Price are not bad for a secondhand car.

Hi Bhavna,

sorry I do not know the regulation to bring car to Australia.

Have nice day

Hey ,

Used cars in Australia is dirt cheap. If you bring your car you will spend more in the long run as getting it fixed or finding parts would be a quite tricky.

Unless your cap is super customised and cost more than 500 K AUD , i would recommend to sell it and get a used car here to start with.
