Budget 2016-2017: the great expectations

Hello everyone,

The National Budget 2016-2017 will be presented this Friday, July 29, by the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Pravind Jugnauth.

The Budget speech will start at 5 pm to end at around 7 pm. Strong measures, particularly in terms of investment and economic recovery, are expected. Growth rate should thus rise from 3.1% in 2015-2016 to at least 3.4% in 2016-2017.

The Budget 2016-2017 should also focus on the improvement of the country's business climate through the simplification of administrative procedures. This should further promote foreign investment and entrepreneurship.

The business world, for its part, is expecting a series of incentives such as a value added tax (VAT) reform, the realigning of corporate tax, measures to counter unemployment, as well as innovative measures to further boost the economy.

We will keep you posted about the main measures which will be affecting the lives of expats and soon-to-be expats in Mauritius as soon as we have further information.

Have a nice day!
