Climate and Weather in Kenya largely depends on altitude and distance from the sea/water body, but of course there are other local factors in play. High altitude areas experience relatively low temperatures compared to low altitude areas. Areas around large water bodies  like Kisumu and Mombasa are usually humid and receiving convectional rainfall in the afternoons sometimes accompanied by hailstones, thunderstorms and lightning. Such areas also record high temperatures during the day because of they are at a low altitude. Mountainous regions like around Mt. Kenya experience a cool and wet climate and the rain falls for longer hours, sometimes the whole day.  Weather and climatic conditions generally vary from town to town because of the micro-climate created by human activities.  there two rainy seasons in Kenya; the long rains begin from end of March to May while the short rains fall from September to October. The driest and hottest months are December and January for most parts of the country. June and July are usually very cold/chilly with very little or no rainy.  The daily weather conditions are usually very dynamic such that, a morning can be very sunny and  bright and the afternoon turns out cloudy leading to a heavy downpour.
Diurnal temperature ranges are not usually very high except during the equinox like in March.
However, due to climate variability, these conditions may change anytime. Currently Nairobi is prone to seasonal flash floods whenever it rains causing destruction to property, diseases because of the dirty water and also a lot of traffic on roads leading to the city.
It is therefore advisable always to carry an umbrella and warm clothes when leaving the house for the day just in case.
