Hi folks! My name is Jorge, 27 yo guy from Spain.
After almost two years living in (n)Iceland, I wanted to move to a warmer country, so after considering many destinations I decided to try it in Malta. Reasons? European Union, great for traveling anywhere, international atmosphere, job opportunities, cost of living/accommodation prices, warm cheerful people, could be a relaxing destination and, once again, weather.
I will be arriving 6th of April, and I would like to ask for advice in order to find a job there. I've got some doubts about what would be best to start with, where to lead my steps concerning my background, so any help will be much appreciated.
About myself, I got a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering. I was working for a year in that field, but finished a bit sick about, I felt I wasn't made for it. Not closing doors, but I don't think there are many job opportunities in Malta either...
During my years at university I had some experience by organizing activities, cultural trips for international students, dealing with finances, booking accommodation, transports, guiding visits etc., so looking for something different I ended up moving to Iceland to work as a full time Workcamp Leader for an environmental NGO. Did a bit of everything, but main job was basically to manage and lead 2-week Workcamp projects for international volunteers all around Iceland, coordinating and organizing working groups, finances, guiding tours, and in general being the link with the Icelandic host, my organization and the group of volunteers. Such a rewarding job, but hard & physically demanding too.
After that, coming back to Malta, I could start by looking for a tourism/hospitality related job to start with. I also love sports and would like to try for i-gaming vacancies, as seems like salaries are more reasonable in that field. My main inquiry is: do you think I could try with i-gaming considering that I have a technical background? Or knowing it's not related with statistics/IT, etc. I've got nothing to do?
Thanks in advance for your answers
