I am new here and apologise in advance if I have posted this in the wrong section.

I am hoping that someone could assist me.

I am looking to move to Malta in March/April 2013 and I would like to prepare myself for then.

I am a poker player and really enjoy playing poker. I look to take my poker career further and Malta appears to be the perfect place for me to do this.

I am currently working ( customer support ) for an online gaming company who offers services such as poker, sportsbook, casino, etc.

So these are the concerns that I have and would appreciate any assistance offered:

* I am looking for a long let apartment to use as a Poker house in Malta? I am looking to pay around 350 EUR per month. I would like to keep my expenses to a minimum so anything cheaper will do perfectly :).

* I will be moving to Malta with the idea of living off my online poker skills however I would like to have a back-up plan, so if you could assist me with something  such as a job in the Malta's Igaming / Poker industry I would really appreciate it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi captaindaniel and welcome to Expat.com!

Hope that other members will soon share their experience with you.;)

Have you tried to post an advert in the section Housing in Malta? It may help.

Harmonie.

Hi daniel,

I'm in exactly the same situation as you. I'll be arriving in Gozo in just over three weeks time to commence house hunting and familiarising myself with the realities of day to day life. If you want to pm me your contact details (Skype address for instance) I'd be happy to share my experiences.

Keep skinning those fish

Hello

I am moving over to Malta with my wife (I am posting this under her username) next June and will also be playing poker online for money. A few points:

- Malta seems to have great broadband facilities because it has set itself up to cope with the demands of the online gaming market - this of course means that there are good broadband connections available for domestic users and this is obviously important to us online grinders.

- There are a few casinos in Malta, I think they all offer MTTs and cash games and although you intend to grind online I would recommend a regular visit just to get out and sharpen up some aspects of your game. It is surprising how much it helps you read opponents online.

- You should be able to find an apartment at the price you are quoting quite easily. Look around this site for advice on how to navigate your way through the minefield of landlords, utlities, residency etc.

Good luck at the tables!

Martin

Hi,

Warmest regards,

Well. Daniel hasn't found it necessary to make contact or follow up on his post, but for any other grinders out there looking to get to grips with the live scene I'd recommend joining the facebook group "Malta Poker Fish". All the island's casinos use it to adverise their events and there are plenty of helpful members happy to let you pick their brains.

I'll be venturing out (scary experience for an online player ) for the first time in early February to play the Friday night deepstack event at Portomaso casino in St Juliens. If anyone wants to join me (for supportive bad beat purposes ) let me know.

Well, well...glad that I've found poker mind alikes.

Hi from another online poker player, not that good at the moment because of a not proper bankroll management, but still...:)

@ captaindaniel- You can get a flat for 350Eur, I had to pay for my flat in Gzira 400 Eur back in 2009 (according to my co-wokers at this stage was a huge amount, so try to check sites directly from the landlord, where prices are cheaper). You can rent also a room in a shared flat for approximately 200 Eur, of course with Internet secured connection.

By the way , I've been told that they are regular tournaments in Portomaso with a lot of fishes. lol

@ TheDarkman- How was your tourney there? Did you got some fish with chips for dinner? :D

Thanks Sunshine. Don't want to put you off contributing, but there's barely a serious online player alive that doesn't visit that forum on a regular basis :D

Didn't look. Are you in Malta ?
