The above citation from May 1st indicated a start of operations this month, October 2021, for the startup Ecuatoriana Airlines.

However, in late September, the website Aviacionline reported that Ecuatoriana will actually begin service in early 2022.

The article also says Ecuatoriana Airlines will have flights servicing the airport in Manta, Ecuador.  That would be in addition to flights to and from larger airports in Ecuador.

Volcanic ash causes shutdown at GYE.

Guayaquil's international airport had to be closed
to all passenger travel this weekend (August 2022)
due to danger from volcanic ash clouds.

Many flights had to be re-routed mid-air, including
flights originally scheduled into GYE from Madrid,
Panama City, Santiago and Quito.

The source of the ash is the Sangay volcano in
Ecuador's obscure Morona Santiago Province
where an eruption occurred several days ago.
The ash rose to two miles in height and much of it
drifted westward toward Guayas Province
and Guayaquil.

GYE re-opens as volcano stays highly active.

The international airport serving Guayaquil
reopened on Sunday after the winds shifted
in a more favorable direction.

However, some domestic flights are
re-routing around the Sangay volcano
for safety reasons.

Explosions at the volcano are persisting,
with ash shooting into the air at heights
of up to 13,000 feet.  About half a dozen
provinces have been reporting ash fall.
