Moving to Como from London

Hi all,

My family and I (wife and 5 year old son) are moving to Lake Como area in 2021.  I have taken a job in Milan so have been recommended Como as a great place to live and commute to Milan.

To the forum, does anyone have some suggestions on where of all the towns in Como to live etc.  ?  we are looking to purchase a property and we are looking for a house preferably of 3 rooms+  Might be a bit of a stretch for Como but preference is a house versus an apartment.

Thanks for any advice.

You will pay a significant premium for somewhere IN Como, but in the province you will find many smaller and less expensive towns. When you say commute I presume you mean by train? If you mean by car there are more options open to you on the outskirts of Como. These sort of decisions are really dangerous to make from afar I think. Come initially for a stay and spend some time looking around the area. (FYI I am in Lecco which is on the east side of the Lake.)

Hi, I realize it's an old thread but figured this might still be helpful.

I think it's a great decision to search for a home in Como and commute to Milan! Como City itself will be very lively, with loads of social activities (once things open up). However, it's quite common for people to spread out around the lake (and more beautiful/peaceful), just be mindful that the more north you go, the trickier the commute becomes as buses can causes traffic during rush hour on those tiny mountain roads!

My family is living on the west side, in Rovenna and Moltrasio, and it takes one relative about 20 minutes to drive to Milano for work. Living the dream really! Feel free to dm me if you have any more specific questions about buying. My fam just bought a house there and know the process really well.

Nice reading these comment. Moved to Milan last year from London. We are currently renting in Milan but future wise we would look into investing in a property outside of Milan.
Also, for all Londoners wanting to meet up in Milan or Como (me and husband still havnt visited), let me know. Would be nice to socialise once things open up.
Grtz

Why don't you just get on a few real estate websites like A Place in the Sun and check out what is available? They often show videos of homes and apartments and you should at least check out the areas and get an idea of what you need. Then you can have an agent help you hone it down to a handful you can look at on line or on site. You can be punted to other agents who are specifically advertising for Como.

Hello! For those who have moved/currently live in Como - how are you liking it? We are considering the move so would love to hear thoughts.

Hello Dani,

Welcome on board ! How are you doing ? Any plans of moving to Como ?
