Hello Suru! :)

I hope that other members will help you.

All the best,
Harmonie. :)

Boroko is safe from 6am to 6pm, if your moving around out of that time frame i advise you to be escorted by security's.. Not that it,s like Iraq but its better you take precautions. There are certain shop's your family can shop at that is safe. SVS Harbor City, Food world & the new Vision City which are three i can think of for now. As a vegetarian your at the right part of the world. It's pretty cheap here at the markets.

Hi Suru,

I am also in the same boat as you,a vegetarian, I was in POM few months back there are only three places where you can get Vegetarian food of decent quality.Otherwise there is a Hyper market in Boroko where you can get all the Indian Spices and they are reasonable.
Once i remember the names I will let you know. i am also shifting to POM soon with my family.
Thanks to Rodney for giving me the confidence about my daughters schooling.
Take care

Dear Suru,

I am just waiting for my offer letter and would be flying soon there.

There is a good potential for savings there what you are getting is good enough, the monthly expenses for food does not come out to be more then 1000kinas levishly , 1kina is about 17 indian rupees for an individual.
Hope this should give you an idea a bread is`about 4.25 kinas,12 eggs is`about 11 kinas, full creame milk bottle is`about 4.95 kinas. biscuit is`about 3.40 kinas, noodles is about 9.5 kinas, butter is`about 7.5 kinas, onions is about 8.50kinas.
Luckly I have a bill from one of the hyper markets there, so all this information is from there.
Hope it helps
regards

Goodmorning Suru,

I would also be taking my family but only after six months, after I have settled down and make required arrangements for the family.
Since your office is giving you everything and you just need to cater for food, you will be very comfortable with this kind of salary. Just make sure that the Medical expenses for your family are also covered in the package.

Dear pulinp

Thanks again for replying, please note that as i mentioned earlier, only food expenses i have to bare, medical exp., my son education and every year 4 weeks holiday alongwith to and from ticket fare will be provided by my employer.

Just want to know that, i have listen that once you get down at new papua guine immidiately you have to take malaria vaccination?

Regards
Suru

pulinp2005

No Suru, thats not true, when in the past I arrived in POM there was no medical check up or anything like that.
But I would suggest that since POM is a malaria infected area you should take precautions specially for the kid.You can have these done in Mumbai itself. The BMC must be having a office for this kind of vacinations, and if you get these done tell them to issue you a booklet confirming that you have taken required vacination.
Otherwise there is no problems as such

Dear pulinp,

Lot of stories listen about crime in Papua New Guinea, and also learned that lost of indians are already working there, i am little confused about whether i should take this opportunity or not. Please help if you can.

Dear Suru,

Crime is a concern there in PNG but if you stick to your time ie NO late outings etc or avoid going to mid town or crim prone areas there is no problems.Keep a low profile.
Crime is everywhere in the world so if anything has to happen it will happen even in Mumbai.
There are quite a few Indians there who are living with their families for last many years.
Personally I am going there with my family.

Dear Suru,

As an expat as you had mentioned earlier that the company is giving you fully furnished accommodation etc, in addition you must ensure that they give you medical insurance for your entire family as well as the education fees for your kids.Rest I think you already have.
Have a good time

Hi, Pulin,

That's great, my things is in the process. There is one obstacle, company has sent a work contract copy but only second page, my freind insist me to sing. I clearly told him boss i require full set of contract alongwith salary details and other employee benefit that you have promised, but he refuse to give in writing. I don't understand why he has done that. He told me Keep trust on me and i assure you that you will get the same salary what we have promised, but we can't give in writing. Please suggest what should i do?

Regards
Suru

pulinp2005

Dear Suru,

When I went to the High Commission for the final visa clearance they asked me for the full copy of the contract to be submitted along with Police Clerance and medical clearnce.
I suggest you tell your employer that it is the requiremnt of the high commission to have a full copy of the contract signed.
you can send me a scanned copy of the letter he has sent you on pulinp2005@yahoo.co.in may be let me hv a look and may be I can adv u on that.
We must be very sure before we go to an unknown terretory.
Take care
Pulin
