Free and low-cost leisure activities in Greece

Hello,

We invite you to share some information regarding leisure activities that are free or low-cost in Greece. This information will give future expats (or even current expats) an idea regarding some of leisure activities that they might not be aware of.

Is there a way to find out about free or low-cost fun activities in Greece, such as a specific app, or a newsletter, or magazine, tourism board, etc.? How do you find out where events are organised?

What are the most common free leisure activities in Greece?
Which free activities do you recommend for children, for teenagers, for adults, and for seniors?

Are there certain days where access to paid activities are offered at a lower price or even for free, such as museum entry, or exhibitions, or a theme park, etc.?

How do you maximise your leisure activities in the most cost-effective manner?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

There is a free entry to museums several times a year, the new Acropolis museum is one to look out for.The summer arts festivals around Greece normally have free events with that, reductions for students, unemployed.great festival for the Attiki area,Athens, lots of street entertainment and a open cinema film festival where some screenings are free, information to all the above is on line. The very sweet weather in itself allows one to enjoy free lovely times with walking, bikes, picnics, marathon running, mountaineering,I saw a walking race going on at Alepohori last sunday and in loutraki a bike race on the same day.A couple of times a year they have classic car races through from Athens to loutraki, lots of cars -people from other countries in it.Elefsena has an arts festival and some events are free, entry to the ancient site is not expensive and is of course marvelous with a museum on the site included.Loutraki has spa bathes to use, reasonable price, outdoor pool.Somewhere above Loutraki there are natural pools to get into, water gushing from the mountain,I must investigate that this year.Ikaria is a place for natural thermal waters bursting out and the water is said to be radio-active,not harmful, infact may be the reason for low cancer rates there. The council there has enclosed some of the springs and made them look like Roman bathes, another ..must go to...Closed cinemas also have days as well, look on line for freebies, some theatres have free days too,Ive been, you can find weekly free dance classes, language lessons, its all out there,so happy freebie hunting everybody.
