Free and low-cost leisure activities in Croatia

Hello,

We invite you to share some information regarding leisure activities that are free or low-cost in Croatia. This information will give future expats (or even current expats) an idea regarding some of leisure activities that they might not be aware of.

Is there a way to find out about free or low-cost fun activities in Croatia, such as a specific app, or a newsletter, or magazine, tourism board, etc.? How do you find out where events are organised?

What are the most common free leisure activities in Croatia?
Which free activities do you recommend for children, for teenagers, for adults, and for seniors?

Are there certain days where access to paid activities are offered at a lower price or even for free, such as museum entry, or exhibitions, or a theme park, etc.?

How do you maximise your leisure activities in the most cost-effective manner?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

Croatia does offer lots of interesting activities.

I would say the most common free activity in the country is the open parks. Croatia has lots of open green spaces and parks that are free and open 24h. Besides that, the country also has lots of free playgrounds for kids. In almost every neighborhood you can find at least one playground.

Besides that Croatia also has lots of nice events!

Every year there is the famous "Noc Muzeja" or "Museum Night" where all the main museums in the country are free from late afternoon until night.  You can check dates and participants on the official website: http://nocmuzeja.hr/

To celebrate Springtime and warmer and longer days, Zagreb also hosts the Street Festival "Cest is dbest". A free open festival that happens in various different locations in Zagreb. There are activities and presentations for kids and also for grown-ups. You can check the calendar and schedule on the official website:  https://www.cestisdbest.com/

It's amazing to go around and feel the festivities atmosphere. Every year, during this period you can also watch a different kind of manifestation, shows, concerts and presentations, all for free. During Advent each city has its own calendar of festivities, so keep a look at the info/touristic center of your hometown.
