Fishing from shore

Anybody here do any shore fishing? I'll be staying at the Wyndham in late May and am wondering if it's worth it to bring a travel rod and setup down.

I surf fish. I caught an ell. Trying to find the rivers where the ocean meets the river. I bought a collapsible pole , 20 lb breaded line. Used octapuss for bait with 3 ounce wieght and a 2 foot lead. This time will use artificial bait. The problem for me there is no secuity so fishing at sunrise and sunset are not viable. Hope this helps
