I am landing for the first time in Adelaide after being granted the skilled worker immigration visa.

I need to know first steps and how to get the PR and health insurance, what are the must do's and what is the best location to rent temporarily.

Thanks.

For PR, see the Dept of Immigration.  You need to do some paperwork in this order:

1. Register for Medicare. Take your passport with you.
2. Open a bank account. To do this you will need you passport and the Medicare card. If you have a bank clearance statement from your country to will not need to wait six weeks.
3. Get a tax file number from the Australian Tax Office. You will need your passport, your Medicare card, and your bank account details.

If you wish to have private medical insurance to cover elective surgery, compare cover from insurers such as Medibank Private and Bupa. It is very expensive. You will need your passport and bank account details.

https://www.finder.com.au/mobile-plans/ … E5EALw_wcB PR VISA) - you don't need to do anything to get it.

1.  Temporary RENT - you should look into AIRBNB - https://www.airbnb.com.au/ - this is a great solution to have somewhere to go to after landing - until you find a regular RENTAL HOME.

2. Opening Bank Account - if you didn't open yet - recommended to open before you arrive - and transfer your funds to it - before landing here

3. As a PR VISA holder - you are entitled to MEDICARE - you need to register and request the Medicare Card (usually being sent to your residential address within 2 weeks)

4. You also will need to pass a Driving License Exam - to gain an Australian Driving License (if I remember correctly - you can drive with your foreign license only for 45 days from arrival) - you should check it on the immigration website.

5. Regarding Private Health Cover - you can delay that until you have a JOB - and up to a year - to avoid loading fees - you can research that  online "Private Health Loading Tax".

6. You would need to open a TFN number (thats the TAX FILE NUMBER) - aspecially when you start your job - you would need that.

7. Buy a Local SIM card for your mobile phone - to have an Australian local phone number

I believe that should get you the info you need.

Good Luck :)

Can I pre-register for Medicare before arrival to save time?

I am staying for two weeks only for now since I am obliged to travel before the expiry of the visa grant, so is 2 weeks enough to get the PR and Medicare and complete the process of being an Australian Permanent Resident?

Hi,

You need at least 2 weeks (Approx) - to get ur medicare - and it is being delivered by mail - so you need an Australian Address.

So it depends if you leave before you get it or not.

You might ask the AIRBNB hosts to keep that for you - but it seems to me not to be very reasonable.

If you are not staying in Australia, then just issue the Medicare when you are coming here to stay permanently.

As a PR Visa holder - Medicare is part of ur privileges - you are entitled to MEdicare - no matter when you apply for it.
