Recognition of foreign qualifications in Benin

Hello everyone,

Were your professional qualifications recognised in Benin? What country did you complete your qualifications in? What profession are you in?

Did you have to go through any formalities to get your qualifications recognised, such as to have them translated?

If your qualifications weren't recognised, were there any additional tests or exams you had to complete before you were able to practice your profession in Benin or continue with your studies?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Priscilla

Welcome to French bureaucracy that Benin embraces with gusto. Unless you have contacts in high places the likelyhood of your foreign qualifications other than french being recognised is remote. Most foreigners are either employed by embassies, the UN, a string of NGO, etc.... and therefore do not have to go through qualification recognition process but if you are seeking employment in the commercial sector preference will always be given to locals. If you are french it also helps. A french . speaking foreigner is not guaranteed employment in Benin. Of course this would differ if you had friends already there that could offer you a post.

Benin does protect its citizens and the competition you endure is that of over protectionism of its own citizens. Benin only has time for foreigners if they invest by way of business ... etc. I have lived here for 18 months and could write a book on do's and dont's. Get back to me should you need further clarification. Benin is a tough gig do not be discouraged. Good luck and keep going. Best
