Birdwatching and Fishing in Bahrain

Good evening from a first time user on the forum.  I've just arrived in Bahrain courtesy of the Royal Navy for six months, and the post does what it says on the tin - I'm looking for birdwatching and fishing opportunities while I'm here.  More specifically, I'm trying to track down two long-term Bahrain residents, Howard King and Brendan Kavanagh, who I did some birding with around three years ago - I haven't been able to establish comms with either of them yet.

Regarding the fishing, I've come equipped with the light lure gear that is all the rage in the UK...a good job, as all the fish I've seen so far are tiny.  Is there anything decent to be caught around the island, or has all the redevelopment put paid to that?

Looking forward to seeing a bit more than work this time!

All the best,

John
