It depends on who you are, how long you've been away, why you are going back, how long you're going back, the condition of the pet, on and on. Since we don't know the details here, you should view the link Logical put up, as it will answer all of your specific questions.

Actual travel to India with your pet can be done several ways as well - for an animal like this it would be worth checking with the airlines to see if you're able to bring it aboard as a carry on, with the proper container.
