I have absolutely no concerns in this regard,. If you exercise due caution as you would anywhere in the world you and your children are very safe in the Philippines. Of course there are parts that aren't so safe but these can be easily avoided...are there not parts in the US that are risky? Yes there are also some more diseases but only marginally so, My wife has 14 nephews and nieces and not one of them has succumbed to crime or disease. Unlike Latin America kidnapping is virtually unheard of here.
In short that comment is ill-informed...maybe a burned expat with a grudge.
