Newly arrived in Stavanger

Hi Dr C,
I've been here about six weeks, and I'm only just starting to learn Norwegian. You'll get along okay with English to begin with, but a course is a good idea if you're staying in Norway for a while? thanks a lot for your answer and tips. How are you getting with Norwegian after 6 weeks? Could you meet Norwegian people?
So far I've been busy at work and mostly see my colleagues... who are all French because I'm working at the French school of Stavanger! That's also why I want to meet people outside my work. Maybe you could still help if you know about how to meet musicians in the city. I'm a singer and also play the keyboard. Being part of a band could be a way of socializing. Any tip is welcome...
