I don't know all the technicalities but when I look at my paycheck and see what my effective tax-rate is, it's about 20% instead of about 50% and that's because of my wife being classed as a dependent. Read More

I think it might depend on which commune you go to. I think ours was the same place but my wife handled much of it. She tells me that it was all done at our commune as part of the process where you register with the commune to get your ID. Read More
