I have lived in the Dominican Republic since 1998. I own my (service) business. I don't regret the decision I made 14 years ago. I would like to draw the attention of all candidates for expatriation to the Rep Dom, that life here can be very beautiful and pleasant but there are a few rules to know. To make it short I would only talk about the health, security and integration aspects. - first of all ensure that we will have sufficient resources to live. - take out health insurance as quickly as possible (the local ones are very good) - try to quickly get to know people, from all social levels, to understand how life is organized in the DR - not wanting to change everything, to put it as you would like, otherwise add a few touches that will make the difference - do not want to copy everything from our Dominican friends, at least not before having understood the rules of the game. - with equal competence, work in Rep Dom is much less paid than in Europe. - public transport is very different from what exists in Europe. Once all this is understood and taken into account, you will have before you a very pleasant life, with very nice, naturally joyful people, in a country that is still very natural.
