Car insurance?

I am travelling to Malta this month from the UK to start a new job

It will be on a 6 month basis, after each 6 months I will have a review to see if my contract will be renewed for the following 6 months

I am driving down in my car. I have only recently bought it as my previous car wasn't really fit for the journey.

I plan on getting the MOT renewed next week

What do I do about insurance when I am in Malta? Also do I keep paying UK road tax whilst it is on UK plates?

If the new employer likes me and I like the job and living in Malta then I will probably import the car, but until I have been there for a while I have no idea if I will be staying for a longer period of time

Soon as you get a ID card you have to register it locally and pay hefty fees. Else only a few months as a tourist and they are cracking down on people who just nip over to Italy for a day to come back pretending to be new again wrt how long the car was in Malta.

Bad situation for you I am afraid. Renting would have been cheaper given short periods.

Do you need your car, if you are going to live close to where you will be working perhaps you could use publice transport or walk and hire a car when needed.

From what I found:

If You are moving to Malta to live there permanently you can be exempt from import fees, provided that you owned Your car in the UK for at least 2 years.
