Malta

Dagmar Sielaff

Hello, how are you? I am wondering if there are any tips and info about Malta. Is it easy to find work there? How are the opportunities at the moment to find work there as a legal assistant? If anyone would like to talk about Malta, I would appreciate it.

Hi Dagmar,

you will find a lot of information about all aspects of life in Malta in the various sections of the forum.

Jobs as legal assistant ? One direct question - do you speak and write Maltese? Without that you will find it very difficult to find work as a legal assistant in Malta.

Why are you considering Malta?

Cheers

Hi Ricky,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I don't know the Maltese language.
I am familiar with English, German, French and some Spanish.
There are a number of reasons why I am considering Malta.
To start off some of my considerations are that Malta is relatively close to Germany (I live in North America which is further away from Germany), it has very good weather and I feel comfortable being on an island with its specific living conditions (recently lived in Bermuda which is 5 times smaller than Malta). There are definitely more reasons than just the location, weather and having island experience but that would be a longer conversation.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
What about you...where do you live? What creates your interest in Malta?

Hi Dagmar,

I retired to Malta a few years ago after working in Germany for most of my life. I knew Malta very well from many visits and Maltese friends and had planned the move for many years.

I live in St. JUlians and can't say that I regret moving to Malta -)))

To your original question. Without Maltese I think you would only have a chance as legal assistant in a foreign company that deals with international law. There are these kind of companies around but even there they might require assistants to speak and write Maltese when dealing with Maltese authorities.

Many people seem to think that everybody in Malta speaks English all the time but it is exactly the opposite. When Maltese are together , whether work or play, they speak Maltese!

Hi Ricky,
Lucky for you to be living in Malta. How interesting that you lived and worked in Germany!
I am happy to have this dialogue with you about Malta.
My thinking was that I could find employment in an international law firm in Malta working utilizing the English language only. I am still researching to find out more about this possibility. I have considered working in an international law firm in the Cayman Islands and Dubai/Abu Dhabi as well, however, Malta is now at the top of my interest and I am not pursuing the other locations at this time.
Is this is a private conversation or a public one?
Excuse me...but Germany is about to play against Brazil...I must go now. ;-)
Enjoy the game should you be a soccer fan.
May the best team win...
Take care,
Dagmar

Hi Dagmar,

this is a public forum but unless you really want private advice it is of general interst to follow these kind of posts.

I'm watching the game too and am fascinated by the result !

If you want to ask really personal questions send me a private message. It's no problem.

Cheers

Hi Ricky,

Thanks for clarifying that. I wanted to know if this conversation is followed by the public.
I am more of a private person and don't feel so comfortable if the entire blog community is "listening".

I am still in shock and disbelief of the score today. Germany made soccer history today in Brazil.

If I have further questions I will write again, perhaps publicly or privately.
In the meantime, thank you very much for all the information.

Dagmar
