Hello everyone, quick question!

Do know for how you need to be working in Malta in order to be entitled for sickness benefit?
My wife has been working in Malta since May this year and due to pregnancy issues, she's been forced to stay at home. I've been taking her sick leave to Social Security every week but the lady there told me today that she may only get paid if she's been working here for at least 12 months, is that right?

To be honest I don't trust her coz before she told me that "pregnancy complications" was not covered by Soc Sec but the other lady there has confirmed to me that's covered. Once again, people tell you things without any kind of knowledge. She made me speak with my wife's doctor to see if he could change the sick leave as she also has other medical issues, to find out today, that everything was fine with her sick leave since the 1st day. Oh dear, it's hard for me to understand how people can be so incompetent and tell you things by assumption.

But anyway, hope someone can answer to my question. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the link toon but that's not related with my query. I was aware she can apply for maternity benefit from the 8th month of pregnancy in case she's not entitled to maternity leave from her employment. My question was more related to sickness leave. I wonder if she's entitled to receive sickness allowance from the SC with about 6 months of employment. The woman at SC office said only after a period of 12 months of employment but I doubt it.

this one seems clearer to me - so it may be they need to have 50 weeks or more paid contributions

Gotcha toon, you're right! Min of 50 weeks of paid contributions in order to be entitled. Thanks a lot toon for taking the time looking for This info, appreciated
