Moving soonish :)

TheLizardKing

Hello,

Short introduction. Moving down from Finland. I am 30 years old and for a few years already I have been toying with the idea of moving to Malta.

So as it happens I just got the news that I landed a job over there and in a few days I will know the exact date of arrival. I guess something like 2-4weeks. It seems I will have about a week from arriving to find myself a place to stay. I´d prefer Msida as it would be in the neighbourhood of my work but it would also be close to the university since I have been thinking about finishing my degree over there if part time will work out.
Anyways..what would be some important factor to think about when hunting for a place? I guess right now is the coldest time of year there and it is probably very humid also..yes/no?
And is it even posible to survive without aircon? :D
I am very open to different options but what can i expect on a budget of 300-400€? Or maybe even under 300...how big a difference is there between 250 and 350?

I will probably have a ton of more questions but this forum has already helped out incredibly much so thank you all for that :)

And of course as always...on the lookout for more cool friends and people to meet so hit me up :)
I love music and spend alot of my free time producing, playing instruments and singing. I also enjoy different sports...to play and to watch games in good company :)
And generally just hanging out, socializing and having fun :)

Thank you all from this forum...there is very much useful information here!

Msida is quite big :) From some areas (near Pieta) it's difficult to go to University every day, for example. If you find the place just near your work - it's a best solution.

For 300 you can find 1-bedroom apartment in good condition in this area. Ask for "University heights", not "Msida", from real estate agents.

Depends what you're hunting for ;)
What company will you working for? You can get discount up to 50% on commission fee of some real estate agencies.

Coldest time is already over, this weekend we had 20°C and the dehumidifiers needs to be drained only 2 times a week now :)

Yes, unless you don't live in a penthouse

There are not many offers for less than 300,- but all of my new colleagues recently could find a decent flat within this price range in this location within 2 weeks.

This should be no problem there, and if you like I also can show you where you can meet dozens of Finnish fellows, too :D

As you see, you only have to come to Malta ... and everything else will be not a big problem

Oh thank you for the response :)
Yeah I´m not in such a hurry with the flat. And I´ll see..think I´ll get help from the employer in finding one also.

I am still negotiating about some details so don´t want to say anything about the employer yet :D

A dehumidifier is something I probably have to go out and get myself? Are these needed all year around or just during the most humid times? And I guess we are talking about the electric ones herew..not those cheap chemical thingies?

Oh up to 20 sounds splendid..:D Had -14 still a few days ago in the morning when going to work.. :P

Yeah I dont think it will be a problem to find friends :P

Thank you very much for the great pointers :)
