Is moving to Malta good right now?

emjharts

My Husband and I love Malta, we've visited several times, always stayed in private places to try and experience normal life, driven almost everywhere. We have always wanted to live abroad, the US first choice (which would probanly never happen!), Spain second and Malta third - only because compared to spain its further to travel and more expensive to move to in regards of car import tax, flights for relatives to visit etc.
My Husband has been offered a job that pays £40,000 per year in Malta. This is alot of money and although i know rent is alot cheaper in Malta than it is in the UK I think that most things are pretty much the same. So,i am wondering, should we accept this? its  a big move and would we benefit?
I'm not currently sure what kind of state malta is in finacially at the moment and this is a big pay cut to what we are earning in the UK so would our quality of life on this wage be pretty good right now in Malta on this wage? Its been a year since we have been but even then going out and supermarket shopping was alot more than it was the previous time we came, and also, what about home internet access? as my husband is in software this is a must and how mush does it cost over there for a really good internet connection as the last time we stayed it was pretty non existant!
look forward to hearing comments!

What job offer is paying $40 000 pounds/year? That would put you in the top 10% in Malta

I think you know the answer considering you had acknowledged that it was good money in the UK and that Malta has a lower cost of living than the UK.

that salary is an excellent salary for Malta (is that paid sterling and then converted to euros, if so 48000euros is superb for here) and you will live well on it - obviously it depends on what you spend your disposable income on..and your standard of living.

Accommodation is far cheaper here for sure, utilities are cheaper than the UK at the moment by about 20-30% (with the right property and the correct residential rates) no council tax, no tv license to speak of - or should i say for those who have one its 35-50 euros a yr, depending on number of tvs....its meant ot be be abolished!!!!!!, cheaper for fags booze and restuarant foods, cheaper public transport too.

However the downside is the general foodstuffs are becoming more expensive, especially if you only wish to use branded goods... white goods and electricals etc are in many case double UK prices, but at least there is still the internet for shopping     and you can save on some things that we can have delivered here. cars are very expensive here too

Internet access here is excellent and reliable both Melita (IMHO the better of the two) and Go have various packages and they are now based on optical fibre so much faster

have a look at www.melita.com.mt and www.go.com.mt for packages etc - but be wary of their tv packages as theyre pants for general entertainment ...but excellent for sports (with the exception that currently you need both go and melita to get the full spread of all mainstream football coverage)
