I'm sorry but I don't understand the question.
i think it means the authority need it in maltese or english and not in designs own native language.

the id card is mandatory at present...you will find that some services require the id card like phone tv internet maltapost for recorded or undeliverable deliveries to you (the ones that get returned to the nearest post office branch)

utility billing is another area

you will also find that if you get stopped by police when driving they will ask to see your id card rather than a driving license

Motor insurers are likely to ask for it to

these of course are not benefits - its just what is required of you.
Hi Designs,

as a Libyan citizen you need a residency certificate to get an ID card. and for the residency certificate you also need the translated marriage certificate or did Castille give you the residency without asking for the marriage certificate? In Malta everthing is possible.

You don't need the ID card as you can show your residency for Arriva through the residency certificate. I'm sure banks also accept the residency certificate.

Cheers
Ricky

whilst that is logically true, does it work in practice ?

edit - Arriva website says should be OK

"To take advantage of the fares listed below you must carry your official an official Malta Identity Card or a Registration Certificate/Residence Card (for EU citizens and their family members) or a Long-Term Residence Permit, all issued by the Government of Malta when purchasing these tickets and at all times when travelling."

thank you guys, really this is a help for me so i don't need the card if i got the residence sticker in my passport so Ricky u say i can show it to arriva or the bank and it;s ok.... hope it work 'll go Monday to do it and yes they didn't ask us for the marriage cir when i applied also when we got the flat!
you still have to apply for an ID card even if you don't want it

waaaaaaaaaaaaaa3!

why i have to????

its the law
http://www.servicecharters.gov.mt/

"Foreigners applying for or renewing an Identity Card

European Union citizens who are resident in the Maltese Islands and non-EU citizens who acquired a residence permit, working permit or a freedom of movement permit should apply for an Identity Card."
Hi Designs,

I just checked out the documents required to apply for economic self-sufficiency as a non-EU citizen and you are right !

They don't require the marriage certificate for residency. Hmmm - strange .....

Cheers
Ricky
yes they didn't ask us for it! and now when i went to apply for the id card they asked us ! and i think it's stupid because they just ask when you are a woman!!! the men they don't have to show it,,,,,,,,am i in a muslim country!!!! looooooooool
you need to take for ID card

"1. your passport or foreign identity card. Note that the passport of non-EU citizens must bear a valid residential or working permit sticker which will not expire at least within the next three months as on the day you call at the Office.

2. your original marriage certificate or separation/divorce papers if you are a married female (if these are not registered at the Malta Public Registry)."

catholic or muslim for me they treat women in the same way!!! always women have to prove they are decent!!!

Hi Designs............I do not think it is about whether a woman is 'decent'.
I think it is about the tradition of the woman changing her name upon marriage.
(Which btw is NOT a legal requirement in the UK and I doubt if it is anywhere else, it's more a custom.)
Thus it is an issue about identity not morals and it kind of makes sense to me.
So, please, do not feel offended, no one is implying anything.
I wonder what happens if the man takes his wife's surname?
In UK that is not a problem.
I would assume that in some other countries it could be, given those country's traditional customs.
Shall we talk about gay marriage? :|
When I was in the RAF and previously married my ex wife refused to change her surname to mine and I fully supported her in that decision. Well, the issues that caused, particularly when living in Germany! I had many a row with RAF security services and others, including their legal departments about whether my wife could accompany me, receive medical treatment, fly on aircraft as a dependent or shop in the service shops. The ignorance of some was mind blowing, just because she wanted to retain her sense of identity. As for when our daughter was born, in a German hospital, well the furore then, especially when de-registering her as  a German and registering British.

good point !

I presume if two women they both have to produce a marriage certificate, whereas two men don't

interesting wiki article

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Married_and_maiden_names

"n some Arabic-speaking countries, women keep their full birth and family names and do not change their family names to their husbands' family names. This is also common practice for Muslim women around the world."
George, two interesting points there.
Are gay marriages recognised in Malta?
I notice a lot more tolerance of same sex relationships there.
(Personal observation only.)
"Are gay marriages recognised in Malta?" - Gay marriages are recognised, as long as the couple are of different sex. Same sex marriages are not recognised in Malta.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recognitio … s_in_Malta
And therein lies the rub...........the definition(s) of marriage.
Perhaps I'd better stop there.
define gay!
Touche but I'll rise to the bait.
In the context of this discussion:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay and http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Gay

but then you knew that didn't you :-)
its not about gay marriage, but same sex marriage

Dear George, in arabic world the woman never change her name to the husband family names
and to be more clear in the old ages even before isalm the men was taking their mothers names because in the arabic world this related to who got the best last name is it the mother? some time she came from a strong powerful name so the kid take his mom name
and also  because many were born out of marriage the same happens in the West now single mothers their children are taking their names..... but sure after islam it changed and it is forbidden that women have children out of marriage

long story..... but yes my name even after marriage is the same no changes :)
