Living in bologna

Long description but I am interested in the bologna area while visiting for 30 days……, but I am looking for 4 things, train access to other areas, road cycling, expat community, and great food. Am I being realistic

1. Excellent Train Hub

Bologna is arguably the best rail-connected city in Italy.

You can easily take day or overnight trips to:

Florence

Venice

Milan

Lake Como

Cinque Terre

Tuscany

Dolomites

The station is one of Italy’s major high-speed hubs.

2. Fantastic Cycling

The Emilia-Romagna region is deeply cycling-oriented.

Nearby cities like Ferrara are among the most bike-friendly in Italy.

From Bologna you can do:

flat countryside rides

vineyard rides

hill climbs into the Apennines

rail + bike travel

And the food stops are absurdly good.

3. Better Daily Life Than Florence

This matters more than most Americans realize.

Florence is beautiful…

but living there can become:

crowded

tourist-heavy

expensive

less authentic day-to-day

The trains also go south too, through Umbria, great cycle routes around Lake Trasimeno, to Rome and onwards to Naples etc.

A comment on Bologna, it is a relatively small city so gets very crowed in the holiday season but it is also a university city and gets busy with youngsters all year around, not that they seem rowdy but there are a lot of them :)

Living further south and out of your area I cannot comment on the availability of Drs or the local hospital services, which maybe of interest to you.
