Working conditions and labour laws in Cyprus

Hello,

Working conditions differ across the world, and as a working expat, it is important to know your rights as an employee.

Are working conditions standard in Cyprus? For instance, are working hours, paid time off, and sick leave different for expats v.s. locals? Do they differ based on the type of company (private, public, NGO)?

Are there laws in place regarding physical conditions of the office, employee protection, etc.?

What are some resources in Cyprus to inform people about labour laws and employee rights (websites, governmental associations)?

Have the general working conditions or labour laws changed in any way lately?

How do the working conditions and labour laws in Cyprus differ from your country of origin?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

Let's get this straight. Labor laws are totally ignored. Contracts are not worth the paper written on. You will work 70 hours a week without day off for pittance pay. If you ever qualify for en employment benefits you have to report to the office once a month to be told "we don't have money". If you are lucky enough to get paid you may wait 3 months while your children starve. Lived there for 5 years so I know what I am talking about. Finally escaped to Spain where Eu laws are respected. Cyprus just do their own thing. Let's not even talk about how animals are treated. I have been all over the world and have yet to meet such a thick skinned, greedy, barbarically uncivilized, self serving race as the Cypriots.
