The jobs that are the most in-demand for expats in Laos

Hello,

We invite you to share some information regarding the job market for expats in Laos. This information will be incredibly helpful to anyone considering moving there, so we're very grateful for your contribution.

What are the types of jobs that are easily accessible to expats in Laos?

What are the ones most in-demand for expats?

Which industry and/or jobs have limited workforce?

Are there any existing surveys, data, or reports done regarding this topic?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

Getting a job here is not that easy. There are occasional jobs in the mining industry, but you would probably be better off applying for those outside of Lao.
There are teaching jobs sometimes. To get a good one, say at Panyathip, KIS, you need a degree and teaching qualifications help. At VIS IB experience also helps. There are sometimes jobs with NGOs but to be honest these are nearly always filled by in house applications. You can pick up positions at language schools around the place as a temporary measure in the hope that something better come along. Often better positions are a case of "It is who you know...."

The job market here in Laos is very restricted for expats. Vientianeboy has said it all in his post.
As locals become more learned they usually get the jobs, and rightly so, unless it is a very specific skill set and those jobs are usually for a contract period, not permanent.
