Starting to live in London

Hi everybody,

This is ilker from Istanbul.

We are moving to London next week with my family.
Me & wife and 4.5 years old son.

I want to set the tv and internet subscriptions before reach to London. So i can shorten the waiting time.

I have found SKY packages included tv and internet packages and i want to compare it with different providers.

Do you recommend SKY or are there any different alternative providers?
Thank you in advance.

Ilker

Hi Ilker

Welcome to Expat.com :)

Oh, I do like posts yours, thinking ahead :)

First of all, do you know where you will be living, do you have an address?

Before you can get a TV License, TV package you will need to know where to send the bill and to install any equipment.

Anyway, you will need a TV license

You have 4 main choices to receive TV in the UK.

Freeview

Freesat

SKY

Virgin Media

With Freeview and Freesat you will need to get a separate broadband deal.

SKY works off a satellite and Virgin Media works off cable.

Also needs a UK bank account for the Direct Debit to pay the bill.

Oh - and Freeview is already built into most new TV's in the UK.

It seems that they can make some deals for us from SKY. Do you know about them, can i trust? Any bad feedback, have you ever heard?

It is tough to decide :(

There are lots of shops that do deals with Sky, you can try PC World this is where my father got his package from. These shops are just agents for Sky, and offer the pretty much the same deals.
