Pets in Vanuatu

Hello everyone,

Many of us in Vanuatu have four-legged friends. What about you? Do you have one or more pets? Share your experience with us!

What are the formalities to import pets in Vanuatu? What about pet adoption procedures in the country? Did you bring your pet from your home country to your host country? If so, did everything turn out fine?

What do Ni Vanuatu think about pets? Are they comfortable with dogs, cats or unusual pets?

We never had a pet in Vanuatu, we did have an automatic dog bark though to reduce the constant burglaries. The local cats are good to keep the rat population down.
A couple we knew paid $8000 dollars to import their dog from Australia to Port Vila. It disappeared a few weeks after arriving and following a long search found its skin with scull on top next to the remains of a fire on the beach where it had been barbecued and eaten by some men from Tanna. I would think twice before taking your beloved pet there. Well you did ask!
